As a parent, one of my biggest joys is watching my little one explore, learn, and giggle all at the same time. So, I’m always looking for toys that aren’t just fun and sneak in learning. Bonus points if they’re eco-friendly and safe and don’t make weird electronic noises. So when I came across the Shumee Wooden Shape & Number Sorter House, I knew we had to give it a try. Let me tell you it’s been such a hit in our house that I had to share our experience.
First Impressions
When I opened the box, I immediately thought, “Wow, this is cute!” It’s this charming little wooden house, thoughtfully made. The wood feels smooth (no sharp edges, yay!), and the colors are bright without being overwhelming. It’s bright but in that soft, inviting way.
And yes, it smells like real wood painted with non-toxic colors and was lightweight. No plasticky smells. It’s easy for tiny hands to carry with the help of a handle without dragging it across the floor like a piece of furniture.
You get the sense that someone made it with care. As a parent, that matters to me and makes me feel good about handing it over to my kid.
What’s Inside?
Here’s what you get:
- A sturdy wooden house with little cutouts for shapes and numbers.
- 10 colorful wooden numbers (0-9).
- 5 basic shapes in bright, happy colors. Everything’s sized perfectly for little hands. My son quickly grabbed the star shape and tried to fit it into every single hole. We’re still working on patience. 😄
- A removable roof (which is super helpful because you’re not fishing pieces out with tiny fingers).
- And then I noticed something that made me smile. There’s a little clock with movable hands on one side of the house. This definitely is such a clever addition.

Playtime: What We’ve Noticed So Far

So, we’ve had this toy for weeks now, and it’s officially become a go-to. What I love most is how educational it is. My son thinks he’s just playing, but here’s what’s really happening:
He’s learning shapes and colors without me having to make a big deal about it.
He’s getting familiar with numbers, which is super cute when he points out the number 0 and calls it “letter O.” Close enough.
Fine motor skills are getting a workout. It’s amazing how much concentration it takes for a toddler to rotate a shape until it fits just right. And the joy when they finally get it? Priceless.
Problem-solving is happening in real-time! Watching him figure things out on his own (sometimes with an epic cheer when he succeeds) makes me one proud mama.
The Clock Side: Learning Through Play
This is such a thoughtful touch. The clock on the side of the house has two movable hands which will help in understanding the concept of time.
It’s like getting two toys in one—a shape as well as a number sorter and the other is a super gentle intro to understanding time.

Why I’m Loving It (And He Is Too!)
- It’s safe and eco-friendly. Its safe, non-toxic, made from sustainably sourced wood, and painted with child-safe colors. Which makes me breathe a little easier. No plastic. No batteries. No loud, annoying songs on repeat. Just good old-fashioned play.
- It grows with your child: Shapes and colors first, numbers later, and eventually even learning to tell time with the clock.
- It encourages independent play. Which, let’s be honest, gives me five minutes to finish my tea while it’s still hot.
- It also has a clock on one side. He can slowly learn. We’re not quite telling time yet, but the moving hour and minute hands are great for pretend play. Sometimes he spins his hands around and says it’s ” play time.”. (Honestly, he is not wrong!)
- Beautiful design: I don’t mind it sitting out in the living room. It’s that cute.
- Storage-friendly: The openable roof is super handy for tidying up all the pieces.

A Couple of Things to Know
- If your toddler is on the younger side (closer to 18 months), they might need a little help figuring out where the shapes go at first. But hey, that’s part of the fun, right?
- A little activity guide with game ideas would be the cherry on top. But we’ve been making it up as we go, and it’s been fun!
Who It’s For
This toy is recommended for kids aged 1 and up, and I’d say that’s spot on. Younger toddlers enjoy the colors and shapes, while older kiddos can start grasping the concept of time. It’s a great toy to grow into.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a toy that’s simple, thoughtful, and something you’ll feel good about giving to your child, the Shumee Wooden Shape & Number Sorter House is a total winner. It’s one of those rare toys that checks all the boxes—fun, educational, safe, and sustainable. It’s not just another plastic toy that makes noise (Thank god!).
Plus, anything that keeps my son happily engaged and teaches him something? That’s a solid “yes” from me.
If you’re building a Montessori-inspired toy collection or you’re looking for a screen-free, hands-on toy that encourages thinking and creativity. that lasts long for your toddler. I definitely recommend giving this one a try.
And yes, it’s always playtime at our house now. Thanks to that clock. 😉
