Being a mom, getting ready for function is a big challenge as I am interrupted by my toddler now and then. Hence, draping a saree is a big no as it takes too much time. Finally, I settled down to a lehenga choli over a salwar suit as it didn’t have a feeding option.
Lehenga choli has been my impeccable choice for any event as it can replace a saree. It suits all body types. Its unparalleled beauty exudes royalness and is convenient to wear.
Over the years, Lehenga choli has undergone significant transformations, with many cultural influences shaping its style, silhouette, and appearance. It is also designed to imbibe a contemporary touch making it the favorite outfit of Indian women every year.
If you have been following my blog for a long then you would know that I dwell on sustainable fashion and believe in restyling outfits.
I got this lehenga long back for an engagement function which I styled using a pink net dupatta and a pink brocade blouse that had front hooks. Check out my blog “Bound To The Roots” to crack the styling of this same lehenga differently.
Restyling outfits has widened my ability to express myself through my clothes. Made me more confident about my choices and a more conscious shopper. Not only did this save my hard-earned money, but it also helped me work toward creating a more sustainable wardrobe.
The beauty of Indian clothing lies in its versatility. The most essential part is to match the lehenga, blouse/choli, and dupatta. It’s best to not cover the eye-catching hues and adornments on the lehenga. So, ensure that every drape exudes the style and richness of your ensemble. Also, make sure that your height is considered when selecting the draping style.
You can create various exquisite styles with the same lehenga by draping your dupatta differently. Certain fabrics look better when pleated, and other textures look fantastic when they are allowed to flow over the garment like chiffon. Whereas a silk dupatta with a rich border can be pleated.
Draping lehenga dupatta are works of art. One should have a couple of distinct looks in mind to bring out that amazing look live!
I chose to drape in the Gujarati style as the pleat’s creases and the beautiful floral embroidery added elegance to the drape. This draping method carries the tradition and culture of the Gujarati women.
The dupatta is first pleated and draped on one side, with the remaining three-quarters flowing towards the back (You can adjust the length as per your needs and height). The back free end is then pleated and tucked to the side of the waistband. Lastly, the side seam secures the corner of the underlying border in the front.

You can change your look for various occasions by switching between different draping styles or choosing different dupattas or blouses that match each other. Make sure to have more options!
The entire look of the lehenga is elevated when you put on a drape with your finest jewelry and makeup. It can have a chic and sassy appearance all at once. One should note that styling with different jewelry can also help in achieving a different look.
I like to keep it minimal so I went for dewy pink tint makeup and subtle jewelry. The cute little pearl-dropping ear studs, a choker, rings, ear cuffs, yellow plus pink bangles, and gold bindi had all got my look covered up. My mango sling bag helped me carry a few of my and my baby’s essentials during the function.
I completed my look with a pair of pink shades to pump up the pink punch. Lastly, the comfortable gold kitten sandals matched this ensemble well.
